OVERVIEW |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Founded in 1838, the church is located in Hana, Maui. The
first Hawaiian woman and first woman ordained minister in
the islands,(1925),was pastor for this church.
The Hawaiian word for minister is "Kahu" and over time
people came to call her Mother Alice, a lot easier than, "
The Reverend Mrs. Alice Rosehill Kahokuoluna" or even, "
Kahu Kahokuoluna." The C. Tolpo Portrait of Hawaii's first
woman minister is displayed in the church "Mother Alice"
community room next to the church.
The church built of volcanic rock by Hawaiian Christians is
held together with cement of pulverized coral . The interior
features a native koa wood. |
