OVERVIEW |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The way I heard it, "if Hasegawa's doesn't
have it, you don't need it." Perhaps so, the
store is amazing in the number of things it
carries. Think of a Wal*Mart Super Store
in a closet, that's a good comparison to Hasegawa's. You
will find a mention of the store in every tourist guide
about Hana, and they even had a song written about them.
The store was originally built in 1910, next to their
existing gas station, by two Hasegawa brothers. It soon
became a community staple. The original store burned to the
ground in 1990 also destroying the gas station. The family
renovated the former home of the Hana movie theatre and
reopened a general store there in 1991. That is the store we
saw when we visited.
Plans are in the works at this time to rebuild on the
original store site. Three generations of Hasegawa's work in
the store today. |
