OVERVIEW |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Protected by
an offshore reef, Kahana is a small beach
popular with sunbathers working on a golden
tan. The bay is fronted by the Kahana Beach
Resort. The swimming and snorkeling
conditions are good, but watch out for some
small rocks in the shorebreak.
Never crowded, whales and sea turtles can
occasionally be spotted offshore, and for
amateur ornithologists, the beach is also a
release site for native seabirds that have
become grounded on the island.
Kahana Beach is regarded as one of the best
beaches in the world for windsurfing, and it
is also popular with surfers when the swell
is high enough. The bay at Kahana is a
perfect place for those who want to learn to
sail, and when the weather permits, Kahana’s
offshore breezes are great for kitesurfers
as well. This is the home of the world
famous Kite Beach.
Inland is Kahana Beach Park, with a wildlife
sanctuary, an extensive trail system and
seasonal hunting opportunities. |

PLEASE NOTE |
|
| |
|
|
| |
While
Hawaii's beaches can bring much enjoyment,
it is always a good practice to use common
sense while visiting them. Please be aware
of the wave & wind conditions before going
into the water. Mornings are usually best
for swimming, snorkeling or diving. Have
respect for the strength of the waves and be
aware that high surf can come up at any
time. NEVER turn your back to the ocean.
Be careful when exploring any rocky
shorelines. Waves can crash on the rocks and
knock you over easily, and the rocks may
also be sharp when walking on them.
When snorkeling or scuba diving, please have
respect for ocean life, and remember that
the coral reef is alive too. Avoid standing
on or touching if at all possible. |
