Goofy Foot was
established in Lahaina,
Maui in April, 1995 by
the Owner/Instructor Tim
Sherer to
perpetuate his
relationship with Mother
Ocean and to teach the
ancient Hawaiian sport
of surfing. They are
dedicated to providing
professional surfing
lessons to all levels of
aspiring students in the
spirit of fun and
learning. They are
committed to
facilitating the highest
level of experience for
our guests with a focus
on teaching safety,
ocean awareness and
surfing fundamentals.
In the beginning, Goofy
Foot was run solely by
Tim with an answering
service, a pager, five
soft long boards and a
surf van that he also
called home. Since that
time they've had the
pleasure and privilege
to successfully and
safely introduce
approximately 75,000
students to the awesome
experience of surfing.
These stoked surfers
have ranged in age from
3 to 77. Students learn
fundamentals for surfing
much like they would
learn from practicing
Yoga or Martial Arts.
They've had an immense
amount of experience and
time to develop a method
of teaching based on
fundamentals and
principal areas of
focus. Along with
introducing 4 different
stances, instruction
focuses on safety,
navigating the surf
zone, and ocean
awareness. Goofy Foot

professional
instruction, excellent
equipment, and the best
waves possible for
learning. Plus they love

stand in your first
two-hour lesson or the
experience is free!

As a first step in their
beginner group lesson, their
students are outfitted with
modern soft longboards, surfing
booties, and a protective lycra
t-shirt. Next they proceed to the
beach, where the first half hour
or so of your lesson is taught
on the sand and in the flat
water. The rest of your time is
spent surfing in the warm water.
Students are supervised and
coached at all times!
Their introductory lesson focuses
on giving the beginner surfer an
easy approach focused on safety,
fundamentals and
ocean-awareness. Goofy Foot's
lessons are based on easily
learned instructions for
paddling, navigating the surf
zone, timing and catching waves,
four fundamental surf stances,
board maneuvering, stopping, and
even wiping out.
Goofy Foot will provide patient
professional instruction,
excellent equipment, and the
best waves possible for
learning. Upon graduation,
students are awarded a Beginner
Surfer Diploma and a Goofy Foot
Surf School sticker. They keep it
low pressure, safe and fun!
Beginner group lessons are
available to virtually everyone,
and there are very few
limitations when considering the
age, weight, height, or swimming
ability of the potential surfing
student. Prior ocean experience
is not necessary. Group class
sizes will range between 1 to 5
students per instructor,
guaranteed!

lessons offer students the
perfect opportunity to take
advantage of the undivided
attention from one of our
professional surfing
instructors! Take advantage of
your time and our years of
teaching experience. Instruction
is focused with an aim to
provide ideal learning
conditions for aspiring
individuals. A private lesson
will really help you take your
surfing to the next level, plus
it will do wonders to increase
your wave count!
Due to their need for full time
attention, Children 8 years old
and younger are required to sign
up for private or semi-private
lessons.

Full-Day (9am-3pm)
Surf Camps are open to everyone
and encouraged for the keen
individual or small groups.
Instruction is geared primarily
towards introductory-beginner
through advanced-intermediate
levels. Each student's skill and
experience level will be catered
to in terms of appropriate
guidance and instruction. Goofy
Foot Surf Camps are 100%
supervised by one of their hand
picked and highly trained
instructors both in and out of
the water for the entire span of
the surf camp session.
Instructors are patient, mature
and experienced professionals
who love what they do. Guests
are provided with all their
surfing gear. Surf Camps allow
more time for students to
receive in-depth instruction in
the areas of ocean awareness,
tides, swells, waves, currents
and reefs. They guarantee their
camps will be fun, educational
and take your surfing to the
next level!
How it Works: Students
begin their day with warm up
stretching and surfing
instruction on the beach. The
rest of the morning session is
spent in the warm, beautiful
water surfing and practicing
skills with the professional
instructor. Lunch is included
for the full-day camp and is
served at Pacifico's, a terrific
beachside restaurant a few steps
from our headquarters. After
lunch comes a rest and a talk on
the history and evolution of
surfing. The afternoon session
will focus on progressing
student's surfing skills and
awareness. Students are always
encouraged to surf and take rest
breaks at their own pace.
