OVERVIEW |
|
| |
|
|
| |
This must do hike is one of two treks
leading into the Haleakala National Park
wilderness. (Sliding Sands Trail is the
other) Steep switchbacks descend the rim of
the odd shaped Haleakala basin to its valley
floor. Along the way: neck snapping views of Koolau Gap, Keanae Valley, and the eerie
cinder cone and lava rock landscape. This
hike travels 10 miles for an overnight stay
at Paliku cabin, but you can cut it short
and still trek through the magnificent
scenery. Some option include an up and back
7.4 mile round trip hike to Holua cabin and
day hikes to Silversword Loop (8.2 miles
round trip) or Haalalii cinder cone (10
miles round trip). You can also combines the
Halemau'u Trail and
Sliding Sands Trail for
an incredible all day hike........ |
