Hike Maui - Called the "grandfather of ecotourism," Hike Maui has offered naturalist-led hikes into Maui's wilderness since 1983.

Why Hike Maui? Experience We're the oldest, most experienced hiking company in the state. They are the wilderness experts. They started by living off the land in Maui's jungle in the early 1980s.

Best Guides Described as "walking encyclopedias," their guides are considered the best on Maui (read "Our Guides"). They include: a marine biologist, a professor of ethnobotany and botany, two (former) national park rangers, an expert on whales, dolphins and turtles, two wildlife biologists, and a (former) physics teacher.

Safety: In two decades, they have never had a major mishap. All guides are CPR and First Aid certified.

Permits & Licenses: They have permits and permission to hike to more places on public and private lands than any other Maui tour company.

East Maui

For those staying in south and east Maui (Kihei, Wailea, Makena, Pa`ia, Haiku, Huelo, Kahului, Wailuku) they drive to one of the most popular valleys on Maui's famous Hana Highway—a valley unique for having several waterfalls within a short distance of each other.

• Hike 2.5 miles roundtrip through a mix of pasture, rainforest, bamboo and fruit trees

• Follow two streams to several waterfalls from 10-feet to 40-feet high

• Swim in large pools underneath any of the waterfalls

• Swing like Tarzan from a rope into one of the pools

• Lunch included

You can meet them in Kahului then drive in their van to the trail or choose door-to-door service

West Maui

For those staying on the west side (Lahaina, Ka`anapali, Honokowai, Kahana, Napili, Kapalua), we pick you up and drive north along the wild, remote side of West Maui

• On the drive: spectacular rock formations and craggy sea cliffs. Hike 2.5 miles (roundtrip) into an isolated rainforest along a beautiful stream

• Follow the stream to ancient stone-walled agricultural terraces. Walk through a peaceful bamboo forest

• Swim in pools under small falls and shower under a 20-foot waterfall

• View triple cascading, 20-, 30- and 40-foot waterfalls from a lookout point. Circle West Maui tour -- drive back by circumnavigating the West Maui Mountains

Full Day Waterfalls & Rainforest Hike

"This is it!" one Manhattan lawyer screamed when he first laid eyes on this valley. Laurence Rockefeller must have felt the same way when he bought the land, then donated it to the national parks. • Hike 4.5-miles through streams and forests in the national park

• ‘Ohe‘o Gulch & Stream - Maui’s most magnificent scenery

• A network of pools and cascading waterfalls

• Waterfalls: 45-foot, 200-foot, 400-foot and more

• Acres of towering bamboo and a huge rainforest

• Circle East Maui during the van ride, driving both the famous Hana Hwy and the little known country road through Kaupo

• Lunch and snacks included

Haleakala Crater Four Mile Hike

They would never visit Maui without experiencing the Crater. It's where their guides go for inspiration. A great amphitheater of silence and expansiveness. A place of beauty that always evokes awe. The four-mile trip is a good Crater sampler -- you hike through three very different environments.

Grandeur, majesty, vastness. Haleakala's energy is intense and ethereal, and it's absolutely silent.

• Views stretch for more than a hundred miles in all directions

• A two-mile hike at 8,000 feet on a lava rock trail lined with rare endemic plant species

• Another two-mile hike at the 10,000-foot summit where huge cinder cones dominate the desert-like, expansive scenery

• A short loop trail at 7,000 feet through Hosmer's Grove, a cloud forest full of unusual native Hawaiian birds

• Lunch included

Meet in Central Maui, then ride with them 1 hour to the National Park.

Haleakala Crater Eight Mile Hike

You're on top of the world (8,000 feet), then you descend to the floor of one of the world's most famous volcanoes (not active, don't worry). Twice as long as the Four-Mile Haleakala hike, so it's for those who really want to hike and really want to experience the magic of this phenomenal place.

For those who want to reach the crater floor and get a good workout. We hike the Switchback Halema`u Trail at the 8,000-foot level and descend 1,600 feet to the crater floor. Most would consider this strenuous.

• Descend through alpine scrub forest on a lava rock trail

• This end of the crater has more endemic Hawaiian plants than the summit

• Cross the crater floor past huge slabs of lava and bizarre rock formations

• Hike two miles across the floor to Holua Cabin

• Return back up the Switchback Trail

• Panoramic views all day long

• Lunch and snacks included

Meet in Central Maui, then ride with them 1 hour to the National Park.

Level: Strenuous
Time: 10 hours
Length: 8 miles
